The Case of the Curious Mermaids
Friday, October 17, 2008
Not so long ago, a mermaid decided to leave the comforts of the sea to become human and find her true love. But in her wake, the mermaid left questions that the residents of Serenea were curious to find out the answers to.
Berbola was the mermaid princess who couldn’t have enough. And when she saw that her queen mother refused to do anything to get Dyesebel back into Serenea, she began to entertain the notion that maybe she too could exchange her tail for legs. But instead of legs, what Berbola found in Amafura’s cove were questions: of how Dyangga managed to usurp the throne, and who the mysterious Lucia whose memories she saw in Amafura’s magical containers.
Meanwhile, on land, the mermaid who was once known as Dyesebel became the naïve and curious ‘Isabel’. Adopted by a kind woman, she began to live a normal life at the city, working and living with other normal people. But ‘Isabel’ was far from normal.
After discovering that she was working for her Prince Fredo, ‘Isabel’ began to long for every chance meeting and every chance to touch him – to remind him that she was the one who saved his life, and that she was the one who can give him his happily-ever-after.
But obstacles were laid down before ‘Isabel’: with her disfigured face, Fredo didn’t remember her; and, Fredo was already betrothed to marry the incorrigible Betty.
Yet, this did not hinder the hopeful mermaid as she began to make her presence in Fredo’s life important.
